It’s true that everyone is different and has their own idea of “a dreamy lifestyle”. A common thread that unites all of these ideal day dreams is being able to afford it. Money is usually what stands in the way of us living how we would like to, whether that’s because we feel obliged to maintain a certain standard on an everyday basis, the need to pay off debts, or compelled to save for the future.
Though there is no magic formula that will transport you into the lifestyle of the 1% of the richest people on earth, there are some things that you can do to feel like you are getting more out of life and living out your dream lifestyle.
Work Hard, Play Harder
We know that most people envision their dream life as one without employment, however that’s highly unrealistic unless you have a wealthy relative you are on good terms with. But if you do want to live life according to your standard of luxury, maybe you just need to settle on having it just some of the time. If you work hard and live frugally for 10-11 months of the year, you could be able to actualize your dreams for the remaining part of the year, whether that means cruising the Meditterean or lounging in luxury villas in Turks and Caicos with white sandy beaches and private pools. Though you can’t afford to live this way 100% of the time, knowing that you at least get to experience it for a limited amount of time could be enough to keep your life satisfaction levels up! Knowing that you will have your “reward” during the designated time also means that you are motivated to sacrifice whatever you need for 11 months of the year to in order to ensure your dream goes off without a hitch.
Change Your Idea of Luxury
Sometimes attaining happiness is more about gratitude than it is about acquiring more and better things. This might be the time to volunteer in a local charity that services underprivileged families or perhaps complete a missions trip to a developing country. Not only will you have the opportunity to help others and do something meaningful with your time, you will most likely realize that you are already living a life of luxury!
Infuse Luxury into Your Everyday
Yes, the idea of having your personal bartender or waiter seems luxurious, however there are small things that can also boost your quality of life without needing to pay someone to mix you cocktails. Whether that means treating yourself to a glass of wine with dinner every day or upgrading your shower for a more spa-like experience on a regular basis, these seemingly small changes can boost your quality of life at a relatively inexpensive cost. Think about what it is that actually makes you happy and you feel is lacking in your life. It might be worth the extra hundred dollars a week in massages or meals at restaurants to make you feel like you are living like you want to. That’s what money is for, right?
Some people hope that once they hit retirement, they will be able to sit back and relax in a luxurious environment. The truth is, that once we get to that point in our lives, we realize that there is no guarantee that we will have the health, energy, or finances to enjoy it. That’s why it’s important to make our lives feel worthwhile and set shorter timelines for periods of time when we feel fulfilled and happy.
