Christmas is right around the corner. Have you started your shopping yet? If you haven’t, take a hint from me: your teenager probably wants an Apple product (or more than one) for Christmas.
Before you worry that Apple products are too expensive to buy for your teen, reconsider. There are plenty of ways to buy that beloved iPhone or iPad and be the hero this holiday season!
Strategies to Buy a New Apple Product
Find Ways to Receive Discounts. Apple doesn’t like to give out discounts, but just because you can’t get them directly from the source doesn’t mean they’re not available other places. If you have a Discover credit card, you can receive up to 11% cash back on an Apple purchase! If you don’t have a Discover card, this is very likely a good enough reason to open an account!
Stack Discounts. Don’t just stop at one great discount. Stack as many as you can to make your Apple purchase more reasonable. If you’re buying online, you can go through a site like Ebates and get another 1% cash back. This doesn’t sound like a lot, but every little bit helps, especially when you’re buying such an expensive product.
Strategies to Buy a Used Apple Product
Sure, a brand new Apple product is a great gift, but if you don’t have the money for a brand new one, why not consider a used one? This can be a great way to ease your teen into the world of Apple products without buying the latest and greatest version.
Purchase on Ebay. Ebay can be a good place to look for older versions of Apple products. Make sure to pay through PayPal so you’re protected should anything go wrong with the transaction.
Put the word out. You don’t always have to go online to find used electronics. Put the word out to family and friends that you’re looking for a used Apple product. You never know. Maybe someone is considering upgrading and would be glad to sell you their current model so they can upgrade to a new one.
Find Ways to Generate the Extra Cash
Save credit card rewards. If you don’t have the cash on hand, consider saving all of your credit card rewards for a year. (Yes, this tip will work better for next year than this year.) If you use your credit card regularly for most purchases, you can get hundreds of dollars in cash back or Visa gift cards. This is money you didn’t have to generate yourself that you can use to buy your teen that coveted Apple product.
Use Swagbucks. Swagbucks is a search engine that rewards you with points for using the site. You can earn gift cards to buy products. Again, this is free money, money you don’t have to come up with yourself. You won’t earn enough in a year to buy an Apple product using Swagbucks, but you could easily earn $75 to $125 in a year. Remember, every little bit helps.
